With each step I take there’s a distinct sound. Metal upon metal stomping the ground.
My getup, to some, may look a fright. The reason for it, is what’s creeping after me in the night.
I wear a helmet to protect my mind….reminding me my salvation is one of a kind.
To keep my heart in always doing right, a plate is placed it around nice and tight.
I’m able to stand prepared, flexible, and erect. In my belt, truth is all you’ll detect.
Hard ground and rough terrain has taught me that in peace my feet must remain.
Deflecting darts, I carry my shield…reminding myself my faith is sealed.
Each piece of my armor are only for defense. To protect, guard and behave like a fence…
But my two-edged sword is something to be feared, for with it I can take down any harmful thing that comes near.
An original work by Amy Blount 2018
The Roman sword
The sword used by Roman soldiers was known as a gladius; and in the hands of a skilled man, it was a fearsome weapon. In fact, it became known as “the sword that conquered the world.” It was sharpened on both sides, making it lethal against an unarmored foe. The point was also sharpened, enabling it to pierce armor.
An infantryman in the Roman legions would also go into battle with a dagger, a few spears and possibly a few darts. But the gladius was the only offensive weapon listed by Paul, and it was the main weapon in the soldier’s arsenal.

I love this passage in Ephesians. During some really rough years with my son and me, we recited this together every morning, and went through the motions of putting it all on. God was with us the whole time.

I am reminded how often I go into battle unprepared. God has given me all the equipment I need, but I fall into the temptation of going through the motions. May each person who reads this be brought back to the understanding that we need to daily put on the armor of God.

Yes! Amen. The coolest thing for me was I was working on this throughout last week. Our pastor preached on it along with other stuff to remind us to get up and fight each day. I about jumped up and down I was so excited to see God was steering my writing. Thanks for reading

Love it! That expresses it so well! Yes, we are in a battle, and we must be fitted with the armor of God if we intend to come out as victors and not get slaughtered by the enemy. Satan’s goal is to defeat us and to destroy us in any which way that he can, so we need to know his tricks, and we need to be prepared to fight off those evil schemes against us with the armor God has given us.
I know I have shared this before, but I used to fight off Satan like I fought off my dad’s abuses, with arms crossed across my face, hoping to not get hit, but knowing that I would. I always knew that I would get hit, and so I just tried to protect myself as much as possible to hopefully minimize the damage. And, granted, as a child living with an abusive father, that is about all that I could have done.
But, I carried that thinking over into my adult life and I saw Satan much the same way that I saw my dad, as an enemy that I could not defeat, and that the best that I could hope for was that God would comfort me in my pain and suffering.
And, then one day the Lord made it clear to me that he already defeated Satan. He paid the price with his blood so that I could be victorious over this enemy. I just had to put on the armor he gave me and use it against the enemy and believe in the power of God and what Jesus already accomplished for me on that cross.
And, I had to use offensive weapons and not just defensive ones, and I had to believe that the victory was mine, too. And, I also had to believe in the sovereignty of God over my life and know that nothing can happen to me but what God allows it, and that he will carry me through it.
And, when I understood all of that, I was now equipped mentally and spiritually to use that armor and to fight that enemy and to not give in or give up or let him defeat me ever again. And, I see you with that same determination, and so I just want you to know that I am cheering you on. Sue

Awesome! Thanks. I’m going to have my oldest daughter read what you wrote here tonight because she needs to hear from someone else that God has it and the devil don’t.
